HELEN WYATT
Murrays Cottage
1 - 26 October 2021
During the residency, artist Helen Wyatt will focus on the demarcations of land around Hill End. Borders have always mattered, but never more than in the time that Hill End was a gold-mining site. The traces of this time - its ancient and recent stories - are all implied in the marks that remain.
Her wearable objects follow in a tradition of ‘Australian goldfields jewellery’ depicting the landscape of 1850’s. They poetically touch on the ‘boundary’ as an expression of Australian history and values, while also highlighting the contemporary zeitgeist in our age of frenetic wall-building.
