Hill End is a small former gold mining town in New South Wales, Australia, situated in an upland valley 84km north west of Bathurst and 35km west of Sofala. The village is not accessible via public transport and it is just over 4 hours drive from the Sydney CBD.
The Hill End Artists in Residence Program began as a partnership between Bathurst Regional Council and curator Gavin Wilson in 1995. Since then the program has grown into one of Australia's most sought after residencies. The Residency Program allows contemporary Australian and international artists the chance to experience and respond to the historically charged landscape of Hill End.
Visual artists, writers/curators, musicians, new media/film/video artists are all encouraged to apply for residencies at Hill End.
Due to COVID, the majority of artists selected for 2020 Hill End AIR Program have been postponed to 2021.
Consequently, there will be no submissions in 2021. Applications for 2022 Hill End AIR Program will open in June 2021.
