Haefligers Cottage
Andy Devine is a multi-disciplinary artist and his residency will explore issues of displacement, abandonment and isolation within the Hill End location. The Hill End environment will be portrayed through paintings and prints examining the industrial landscape. Devine will be mostly interested in responding to the historical and current industrial sites.
As an English migrant, Devine's art practice depicts his current industrial landscape in his adopted home of Newcastle, NSW, as well as his birthplace of Middlesbrough, in the North-East of England. Re-inventing and re-contextualising his surrounding landscape allows him to fuse a third space, which informs a personal narrative. The industrial settings are often used as an almost theatrical backdrop.
